Brushed DC Motor Working Principle
The working principle of brushed DC motor is based on electromagnetic induction and commutation principle. After the external power supply is passed to the commutator through the brush, the current flows through the commutator into the rotor coil, which creates a magnetic field in the rotor coil. Since the stator magnetic field is fixed, the current in the rotor is subjected to a Lorentz force in the stator magnetic field, creating a torque that causes the rotor to rotate.
In this process, the commutator will constantly change the direction of the current flowing through the rotor coil, ensuring that the rotor after each half revolution, the direction of the generated magnetic field can interact with the stator magnetic field, thus maintaining continuous rotation. This is the core mechanism of the brush motor that can continue to operate.
Advantages and disadvantages of brushed DC motor
Advantages:
Simple control: Only by adjusting the voltage or current, you can easily control the speed and torque of the motor.
High starting torque: high starting torque can be generated at low speed. Compared with some brushless motors, the starting performance of brushless DC motors is more superior.

Disadvantages:

Short life: Due to the continuous friction of the brush and the commutator, the service life of the brushed DC motor is relatively short.
Electrical spark problem: When the brush is in contact with the commutator, it will produce electrical sparks, which will not only accelerate the wear of the parts, but also may cause safety hazards in some occasions.
