If the brushes deviate from the neutral line, commutation will occur with overspeed and delay. The longitudinal armature reaction changes the external characteristics of the motor at different speeds in the two steering methods, as well as different external characteristics and different commutation strengths for the two steering methods. When the brush deviation from the neutral position is high, the motor will generate no-load spark when the commutation element enters the main pole flux region.
